A Sexual Abuse Predator Using Hollywood Fame To Gain Trust With His Victims

Thursday, December 01, 2011

Martin Weiss has been arrested for allegedly molesting one of his child clients for years. Weiss is suspected of sexually abusing a young boy by using his job as a talent agent to lure him in. Attorney David Ring, who has experience with sexual abuse victims, was called on for comment by the L.A. Times in this latest of a string of child predator cases. Mr. Ring commented on the tactic that sexual predators use to hide their devious actions: "Perpetrators go to the environment that allows them to work with children without anyone suspecting them," Ring said. "That's why you find them in schools, Little League, Hollywood talent agencies and church groups. They go where their prey is, and because they have worked themselves into that environment, they can avoid suspicion for a while because they're supposed to be around kids."

David's comments: "I have represented many children who were sexually abused by a teacher, a coach, a youth instructor, a pastor, or by some other person in a position of authority. People ask me if I'm surprised by the Penn State scandal; unfortunately, I am not. I have seen many, many cases where a school, youth league, church or business does not report suspected child abuse because they are more concerned about the entity's reputation than the welfare of the child. So they turn a blind eye to it or sweep it under the carpet. Penn State officials did the same thing. They protected one of their own (the coach who was molesting boys) instead of the boys being abused."

Attorney David M. Ring Comments on the Michael Jackson Trial

Tuesday, November 22, 2011

David M. Ring of Taylor & Ring was interviewed by the LOS ANGELES TIMES on November 9th, 2011, about the civil wrongful death lawsuit brought by the estate of Michael Jackson. During the interview David was quoting as saying "Generally in civil court, the range of issues to be decided is far broader than they ever are in a criminal case; and that means a lot more evidence comes in," said David M. Ring, a Los Angeles lawyer who has sued on behalf of plaintiffs in wrongful death cases. "Instead of just looking in the closet, you are looking in the whole house."

A civil wrongful death case is different than a criminal case. For example, in Michael Jackson's situation, the criminal case was against Dr. Conrad Murry alone for his recklessness in causing Michael Jackson's death. However, the civil wrongful death case is not only against Dr. Murray, but against the company AEG, which the plaintiffs allege was Dr. Murray's employer and also negligent and legally responsible for the death.

Taylor & Ring handle high-profile wrongful death cases, including that brought against famous music producer Phil Spector for killing Lana Clarkson at his home.
