As published by LA Times, KTLA, NY Times and ABC, Taylor & Ring , a Los Angeles-based trial law firm, obtained a $2,200,000 verdict against the City of Los Angeles on behalf of the father of a 26-year-old African-American male who was shot and killed in front of his family by Los Angeles Police Department officers.

In May 2013, officers were dispatched to Christian Eaddy’s home in Pacoima after family members called 911 reporting that Eaddy was threatening to kill himself. When they arrived at the scene, Eaddy was holding knives and walking in circles in the driveway of his home. His family members were seated in front of the garage waiting for police.

Forty seconds after the two officers arrived on the scene, Christian Eaddy was shot and killed.

The responding LAPD officers, Christopher Carr and Fernando Avila, failed to properly communicate and employ basic de-escalation tactics and used excessive force. Carr discharged his department-issued firearm, fatally injuring Eaddy.

“A jury will hold the Los Angeles Police Department accountable if supervisors and administrators choose to bless these bad shootings,” said lead attorney John C. Taylor. “Juries will police the police.”

Robert Stanford Brown, APC, also served as co-counsel throughout the trial.
