LA Superior Court Rejects Lawsuit Alleging Extortion Brought By Popular Spanish Radio Star Eddie ‘Piolin’ Sotelo

A Los Angeles Superior Court Judge dismissed a lawsuit alleging extortion brought by Spanish-language radio personality Eduardo “PiolÍn” Sotelo. The Judge found that Sotelo’s suit was a strategic lawsuit against public participation (“SLAPP”) designed to intimidate the defendants from filing their own lawsuit against Sotelo. The defendants were six former Univision Radio employees who worked with Sotelo on his PiolÍn Por La Mañana radio show and their attorneys John C. Taylor and Robert R. Clayton of Taylor & Ring.

“Mr. Sotelo’s lawsuit was a sham attempting to muzzle the defendants. We are very pleased that the Judge saw the suit for what it was,” said Mr. Taylor. “Mr. Sotelo’s alleged perverse actions forced upon the employee defendants were completely inexcusable.”

“His lawsuit against the former employees and their legal counsel was an attempt to use the legal system to divert attention from his own alleged bad acts,” added Mr. Clayton.
