Two Recalls Affect More Than 28,000 International TrucksNavistar, Inc. recently announced two separate recalls involving more than 28,000 International trucks. Additionally, Continental Tire announced a recall of approximately 2,000 commercial truck tires. These announcements are according to documents from the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA).

The trucking company is recalling 26,288 of their heavy-duty trucks with specific Cummins engines – ISX15 and X15 diesel engines. In certain driving conditions, such as long downhill grades, the fuel pump cooling circuit could become restricted, which may cause the fuel line to burst, leading to potential engine stalls, fuel spills, and truck accidents.

Earlier in the fall, Daimler Trucks North America recalled 4,500 trucks for the same issue.

List of recalls and affected trucks

The affected International trucks include:

  • 2017-2018 International 9900I
  • 2017-2019 International HX
  • 2017-2019 International LoneStar
  • 2018-2019 International LT
  • 2017 International PayStar
  • 2017-2018 International ProStar

Owners of the affected trucks will be notified by Cummins, although currently a repair solution is still under development. If truck owners have questions or concerns, they can contact Navistar customer service at 1-800-448-7825 or Cummins customer service at 1-800-286-6467. NHTSA’s recall number is 18V-588. All updated information can be found on the NHTSA website.

Navistar has also issued another recall, affecting about 2,089 trucks and buses with long stroke brake chambers and spring actuated parking brakes. In affected vehicles, the spring actuated parking brake may be improperly crimped to the long stroke brake chamber. This can cause an air leak and separate the spring brake chamber from the service brake section.

Affected trucks include:

  • 2019 International DuraStar
  • 2019 International HV
  • 2019 International HX
  • 2019 International LoneStar
  • 2019 International LT
  • 2019 International MV
  • 2019 International RH
  • 2019 International WorkStar

Owners of the affected trucks will be notified by Navistar beginning November 6, and the brake chamber assemblies will be replaced for free. Owners can contact Navistar customer service at 1-800-448-7825 with recall number is 18512. NHTSA’s recall number is 18V-597. Updated information can be found on the NHTSA website.

Lastly, Continental Tire is recalling nearly 2,000 Conti Hybrid HS3 tires, size 11R22.5 LI 146/143, Load Range H with DOT codes A33TKWUY 0818 through A33TKWUY 1318. These tires may have cords visible through the inner liner, which could cause rapid air loss while in use.

Continental is notifying owners, and dealers will provide replacement tires for free. Owners can contact Continental customer service at 1-800-726-7113. NHTSA’s recall number is 18T-012. Updated information can be found on the NHTSA website.
